Overview
SHIFT: Monday - Friday 7:30AM - 4:00PM
Primarily responsible for maintaining the appearance, health, safety, and effectiveness of grounds, waste management, and recycling programs on NYU owned, leased, and licensed properties.
Responsibilities
Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education: A certificate or diploma from a horticultural institution and/or some college education.
Required Experience: 3 years of work experience in grounds maintenance. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pesticide Technician License Class 3(a), for Ornamentals and Turf. Certified Citizen Pruner from Trees New York.
Preferred Experience: NALP Certified Landscape Technician. NOFA Certified in Organic Land Care.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Good general knowledge of proper horticultural practices related to installation and maintenance of grounds including planting of herbaceous and woody plants, fertilization, pruning, and weed removal. Good general knowledge of plants indigenous to the Northeast. Good general knowledge of botanical nomenclature of native and commonly used exotic plant species. Good weed identification and removal skills. Good general knowledge of best practices in recycling, and NYU recycling policies in particular. Good general knowledge of best practices in composting food and garden waste. Valid driverâ™s license and ability to drive a truck and a snowplow. Ability to safely operate power tools (e.g., mowers, tillers), to carry heavy loads, to dig a proper hole, and to work on ladders and scaffolds. Good communication skills with ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: A good understanding of sustainable landscaping practices as they relate to soil, vegetation, and hydrology.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $40.413. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
