Description: The University of Notre Dame - Restoring reason, beauty, and trust in Architecture
Over the last thirty years, our school has developed a pedagogy that seeks cultural continuity, community, and harmony with nature through mindful design. It is a vital point of departure for addressing the urban and environmental changes that all societies currently face.
We consider our pedagogy's goals, content, and methodological rigor, as well as its commitment to both substance and change, as part of a legitimate campaign to restore architecture to its millennial role: generating the most diverse possible human habitat with reason, beauty, intelligence, justice, and peace of mind. An electronic version of our book, An Architectural Pedagogy for the Twenty-First Century can be accessed here: https://ndschoolofarchitecture.aflip.in/44640c2c78.html

The School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame is seeking applications for the following faculty position: Assistant or Associate Professor - Tenure-Track in Environmental Systems. Rank will be determined upon review of curriculum vitae at the time of offer. The position will be available starting July 1, 2025.

The candidate should demonstrate accomplishments in building system design, building technology development, and/or construction technology development. Evidence of achievement shall be a portfolio of built work, publication, funded research and/or patent. We embrace the concept that innovative thinkers and designers seek to understand practical and theoretical subject matter in ways that go beyond the traditional disciplinary frameworks. In addition to teach technology courses, we seek colleagues who have demonstrated scholarly, creative, and/or professional accomplishments in one or more of the following areas:
Building Systems Integration: The ability to integrate building technologies into design
with particular emphasis on building control systems and building performance.
Design and Climate Change: The ability to engage salient issues of architecture and
urbanism such as urban design, patterns of settlement, resilience, and sustainability as
they are impacted by climate disruption.
Social Justice: The ability to engage issues of equity, affordable accommodations,
community based design processes, and diversity through architectural and urban
strategies.
Building Materials and Construction: The ability to integrate new and traditional building material and method research into design and planning.
Qualifications: Required: Candidates with a doctoral degree in a related area are preferred and/or candidates must have completed a Masters or Advanced degree in Architecture or a related field by the time the appointment begins; applicants not holding a doctoral degree but possessing exceptional experience and achievement, along with a Masters or Advanced degree will also be considered.
Preferred:
Candidates who can demonstrate an ability to integrate Environmental Systems and Building Technology into studio courses and studio instruction are preferable. Candidates actively engaged in professional practice are desirable.
Successful applicants should demonstrate a national reputation in research, scholarship, creative, and/or professional activities in one or more of the areas listed above.
This appointment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. Applicants will be asked to identify all felony convictions and/or pending felony charges.
