The focus and main duties of the Urban Design Planner will be to oversee and coordinate the Site Plan Approval process for development applications including reporting on the environmental and infrastructure impacts of the activities and projects. Assist with urban design activities and related capital projects including park and trail developments and Central Area road and streetscape improvements.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and experience normally associated with a University Degree in Planning or Landscape Architecture, or equivalent. Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in urban design and environment, including design, graphics and mapping skills; construction related issues; budget management; and contract administration. Must have a working knowledge of the municipal planning process including planning documents such as the Planning Act and Official Plan; knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database software applications, including AMANDA; must have the ability to comprehend all forms of interpersonal relationships in a public forum; and have above average interpersonal skills to interact between government and private sector. Must have excellent communication (both verbal and written); negotiation and project management skills; well developed public relations skills and proven leadership ability; and be a team player with a commitment to quality customer service.
